Daughters and their Dads -
full list of recommendations
This is one of those topics that everyone intuitively says – oh,
that surely been covered. But by and large, it hasn't, and it
needs to be. Getting this relationship
right makes a great contribution to a girl’s development and to
her father’s too,
for that matter.
You'll love the stories from this book and they'll keep you
reading, fathers and daughters alike. We're all seeking to
maximise the highs and minimise the lows
and believe me, Bruce Robinson's clever questions help that
quest immeasurably
Geraldine Doogue, ABC TV and radio presenter, journalist and
author
“In
today’s busy world this book will remind all dads with daughters
how
precious their relationships are.
Professor Fiona Stanley, Child Health Expert, Australian
of the Year
“we
could all take time to look for what is unique in a person, and
nurture it.
‘Daughters and their Dads’ gives us a reminder of how we can
find the unique in that special relationship.
Prof Fiona Wood, Plastic Surgeon, Australian of the Year
‘Father
and daughter relationships can be like gold if you take the time
to foster them. I recommend this book for all dads.
Justin Langer, Test Cricketer
Fathers and daughters affect each other in
profound ways. This is a down-to-earth book for fathers and
daughters of all ages to hold in their heads and hearts.
Dr Phyllis Prout, Clinical Psychologist
This book is brilliant. It is the best book I
have ever read on daughters and
their dads, without a shadow of doubt. It's well put together
and has great stories.
This book is profound and is going to touch a lot of people and
provide a lot of
healing for many women.
Daughters and their Dads is the best book on the
subject ever written. The many personal stories combined with Dr
Bruce Robinson's insightful research make for compelling
reading. This book will become a classic in its field. Professor
Robinsons Daughters and their Dads is a must read book for every
daughter
and every Dad.
It also covers the role of husbands and father figures and how
those important relationships can be affected by the father
daughter relationships. The bottom
line is that involved fathers are critical for the psychosexual
development of young women as they are for men. The book is
packed with practical hints and will help
map out a path for success in what Sir John Harvey calls the
most important
success of all.
Dr Bruce Robinson is Australia’s foremost author on fathering.
He is a world
renowned medical researcher and he brings his unique abilities
to bear on this important subject. Daughters and their Dads is a
great book for all the family but particularly for fathers who
want to be the best father in the world for their children.
Warwick Marsh, Fatherhood Foundation
This is a balanced and thoughtfully written book
which invites women and men to reflect upon the importance of
'father and daughter' relationships.
You will read and return to this book many times.
It will make you smile and for some, it will prompt tears.
It is a book you will want to talk about with others.
Prof Linda Kristjanson, Telstra Businesswoman of
the Year, Nursing Researcher
‘Daughters and their Dads’ is a book about a very
special relationship. Parenting
is one of the most difficult and rewarding jobs we have. I got a
great deal more from my three daughters than I was ever able to
give
Kim Beazley, Former Labor Leader
Every father of a daughter understands how wonderfully rewarding
that relationship can be, and also how much it has to be
nurtured at different stages of life.
‘Daughters and Their Dads’, like Bruce Robinson’s first book
‘Fathering from the
Fast Lane’, contains a wealth of thoughtful observations and
helpful advice on
the ups and downs of parent/child relationships.'
Michael Chaney,
President of the Business Council of Australia, Chairman
of the National Australia Bank, Director BHP Billiton
As
many are calling this ‘the fatherless generation’, the
father-daughter relationship is vitally important.
Daughters learn how to relate to men from their fathers; they
learn how a husband and wife treat each other with respect and
honour and, therefore, when fathers take their rightful place
and provide healthy family relationships, the children feel safe
and loved.
As fathers and daughters read this book I pray that it will
bring new meaning and depth to their relationships.
Rev
Dr Margaret Court , Grand Slam tennis champion, pastor
This book is terrific and it has made me think a lot about how I
treat and relate to
my own daughter and wife…..and my son for that matter
Dr
Jim Watterston, School Principal, Director, Department of
Education & Early Childhood Development
Bruce's insights into what makes relationships
tick and how they might tick better deserves a big .... tick.
This is a book that will help dads and families handle a
potentially tricky divide.
Dennis Cometti, AFL Commentator
There is always more to fatherhood than meets the eye.
You never know if you are doing it properly but it is great to
read about how other
dads are approaching the job and this book is full of good tips
and reassurance
that you’re not doing so badly after all!
David Gower, former England Test cricket captain & TV
commentator.
This comprehensive, humane and evidence-based book sets out a
superb plan of action for any father serious about developing a
strong and positive relationship
with his daughters.
Adrienne Burgess, Research Manager, the
Fatherhood Institute, UK and
author of ‘Fatherhood Reclaimed’
Dads have the
unique and irreplaceable role of affirming and loving their
daughters
in a special way and of teaching them that they can find their
prince without
kissing all of the ‘toads’.
This book aids
dads greatly in this task and much more.
Roland C. Warren.
President, National Fatherhood Initiative, USA
In
relation to the book, one word describes how I feel about it –
Outstanding!
Fathering two boys under 10 and a 6 year old daughter, is one of
the most precious and rewarding things I have ever experienced.
I almost wish this stage of life would never end.
Reading this book was like voyaging into a dark cave only to
find it lit by someone else who gone in before you, and
discovering gold at every turn. Packed with so
many stories and ideas, there is so muchto explore and
experiment with!

KB. Counsellor.
This is an outstanding
book, and has definitely broadened my fathering awareness and
outlook. I was so impressed with the book that I purchased a 2nd
copy for a
busy work colleague who I felt might get as much out
of the book as I did.
It's a great read, with lots of humour, touching stories,
practical advice, and admissions of mistakes from a wide variety
of Australian dads (John Howard, Mick Malthouse, busy
professionals, plumbers, you name it...) and their families.
In terms of long term impact, in the top 10 books I have read.
